Short term team in Chiayi
2008/08/25
Hi, all. This week and next, we have an international
short-term team in Chiayi helping with some of the
ministry here. The past 3 nights, the focus has been
on youth. They've gone to internet cafes and on the
streets to invite youth to come to our building for
food and games. The turn out has been better than
expected! We have even had parents come to see what
is going on. We are hoping that this is the beginning
of some youth work among the working class. Pray for
our co-worker, Birgit, as she focuses on this
ministry. Pray for good follow-up of those who have
come to the "fun nights".
Saturday and Sunday, we will do a kids summer camp at a local park where some of our co-workers do prayer walking. So far, 28 kids are registered, but we could easily get double that number! Pray for the preparations and that it will help us make contact with many of the families in that area. We have another typhoon headed our way. Please pray that it won't effect us until late on Sunday at the earliest.
There are more plans for youth outreach the beginning of next week, but those plans could be effected by the typhoon. Pray against discouragement if that is the case. Better yet, pray that the typhoon won't effect us at all! The last typhoon we had nearly only a week ago caused major flooding throughout the island and killed 13 people. Taiwan is still recovering from that one. So, to have another one so soon could be disastrous, not just for the ministry here in Chiayi.
Finally, pray for the short-term workers. Two are from Malaysia, one is from Singapore, one is from Ireland, and one is from America. Pray for energy and stamina, especially in the heat!
